3 Indonesian UNIFIL Troops Hurt as Jeep Overturns Due to Storm
Three Indonesian peacekeepers with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) were injured Friday in a traffic accident in southern Lebanon.
The troops were wounded “when their military jeep overturned during a routine patrol on the Kfar Kila-Adaisseh road due to rain and bad weather,” state-run National News Agency reported.
They were rushed to a field hospital operated by the Spanish UNIFIL battalion in the Ibl al-Saqi plain, NNA said.
Alexa, a bruising winter storm, has brought severe weather to the Lebanon and the Middle East since Tuesday, forcing the closure of roads and schools across the country and blanketing already miserable Syrian refugee camps with snow.
Earlier on Friday, NNA said a Syrian infant died from cold weather in the northern Akkar province.
There have been several casualties in car crashes caused by slippery roads since the beginning of the storm.
