Majed al-Majed Dies after Deterioration of his Health
The army announced on Saturday the death of Majed al-Majed, the “emir” of the al-Qaida-linked Abdullah Azzam Brigades, after the deterioration of his health.
The Army Command said in a statement that he died while he was being treated at the central military hospital.
State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr later told al-Jadeed television that Majed was in a coma before his death, adding that he tasked a forensic pathologist to examine his corpse.
Majed was suffering from kidney problems, said Voice of Lebanon radio (100.5) earlier on Saturday.
The suspect was being held at Baabda military hospital since his recent arrest due to his “poor health,” reported Agence France Presse on Friday.
He was suffering from kidney failure and required daily dialysis.
Majed is the suspected head of the Abdullah Azzam Brigades, which claimed responsibility for the November 19 attack against the Iranian embassy in Beirut, killing 25 people.
According to Islamist websites, Majed was revealed to be the leader of the Brigades in 2012.
The Abdullah Azzam Brigades group was designated in the United States in 2012 as a "terrorist organization".
It was formed in 2009 and is believed to have branches in both the Arabian Peninsula and Lebanon.
In 2009, Lebanon sentenced Majed in absentia to life in prison for belonging to a different extremist group, the al-Qaida-inspired Fatah al-Islam.

If you do any cursory research on the net, you will find out this person had been suffering from kidney problems for years. In,fact, he was severely injured in Afghanistan. I don't see anything sinister behind his death.

I did my research perfectly well Ex-FPM and I know of the ailments this man suffered from and what caused them, but does it not occur to you that renal machines are readily available to treat such people? Then yes, it's sinister one way or the other, his death in such a timing does raise question, but well, we are in Lebanon, the land of a thousand and one problems multiplied by a thousand and one question, till now, no answers. Anyway....

In retrospect, sinister be this man's death or not it is the best possible outcome. Can you imagine the stress Lebanon would have suffered as a result of Iran and Saudi Arabia competing to see which will prevail more on us for interrogation etc. I would not be surprised that HA was consulted and Hassan N. concurred with this scheme. Of course assuming the veracity of the official story is questionable, which, in the Levant, it almost always is...

Jokes aside: there will be no love lost with Al-Majed's death, but you have to agree that it is easy to be suspicious when there was a continuation of the proxy war between Iran and Saudi over the guy, and like one supporter of another Islamist fanatic last year, he died while in custody and going through "secret interrogations" (they couldn't find a better euphemism for torture?).

My brother is a kidney specialist in USA, and if he had kidney problems, then Dialysis could have easily taken care this saudi terrorist's problem until Iranians could talk to him .

It's all a matter of relative power. A technocrat running a ministry has to report to someone. If that someone is the prime minister, then the prime minister will have absolute power over all ministries. If the prime minister is also a technocrat then he will have to report to someone. You say that someone will be parliament. He will then be reporting to the speaker whom will then have absolute power over all ministries. That is why this will not work. This is like taking pieces of the US government without checks and balances. Having veto power for opposition is a better government for Lebanon.
