Foreign Ministry Asks Lebanon's U.N. Ambassador to File Complaint over Israeli Raids
Foreign Minister Jebra Bassil on Thursday asked Lebanon's envoy to the United Nations to file a complaint against Israel over the two airstrikes it waged on the Bekaa town of Janta.
"Bassil asked ambassador Nawaf Salam to hand over the complaint to U.N. chief Ban Ki-moon,” the state-run National News Agency said.
The NNA noted that the U.N. chief will then submit the complaint to the head of the Security Council and distribute it to member states.
"Lebanon will also preserve its right to call on the U.N. Security Council to convene when necessary,” the news agency added.
Bassil also condemned the Israeli attack on Lebanon and its violation of the U.N. Security Council resolution 1701, calling on the the United Nations to commit to implementing this decision.
President Michel Suleiman had asked Bassil to collect all necessary information to prepare for filing the complaint.
Hizbullah confirmed on Wednesday that Israeli fighter jets had shelled one of its positions on the Lebanese-Syrian border on Monday.
The party said in a statement that the resistance will “choose the right time and place to retaliate to the strike near Janta.
Israel has not acknowledged the raid, but officials have confirmed a general policy of interdicting suspected arms deliveries from Syria to Hizbullah.
"We are doing everything that is necessary in order to defend the security of Israel," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Tuesday.
"We will not say what we're doing or what we're not doing," he said.
How about Syria? Yaane it is OK for a brother to rape his sister but not OK if the cousin rapes the sister. I'd say report any and all unwarranted attacks against Lebanon to the U.N. and/or retaliate against the attacker with whatever means you have. You know what else I'd say? Remove all illegitimate arms from the hands of groups armed by foreign countries. I'd say empower the army and make sure we have commanders and soldiers in charge who will make decisions for the best interest of Lebanon. I'd say put your religious differences aside before killing your cousins and neighbors whether Sunni, Shiite, Jew or Christian this way you are not dragging your religion down to the sewers.
The foreign ministry should also file a complaint to the UN over Saudi Arabia's continuance interference in Lebanese affairs and their sponsorship of terrorism in Lebanon.
not born, never lived in lebanon
any news from him ?
In a separate article here on Naharnet, there is some doubt as to whether the Israeli attack actually took place on Lebanese territory, and this has to be investigated.
So what evidence can the UN Representative of Lebanon actually present to the UN Security Council?
