Report: Hariri Informed Damascus he was Committed to Saudi Demands on Crisis Settlement
Arab diplomatic sources in Beirut said that Premier Saad Hariri sent a letter to the Syrian leadership stressing his commitment to agreements reached between Damascus and Riyadh.
The letter came in response to accusations that Hariri was not committed to Riyadh’s demands on a settlement of the Lebanese crisis, the sources told As Safir newspaper.
The sources said that dialogue between Hariri and the Hizbullah leader’s political assistant Hussein Khalil had not come to a standstill. Contacts are also underway between Khalil and head of Hariri’s office, Nader Hariri, they said.
On contacts between Saudi Arabia and Syria to find a way out of the Lebanese crisis, the sources told As Safir that Syrian President Bashar Assad and Prince Abdel Aziz bin Abdullah held phone conversations with each other on several occasions.
The Saudi King’s son will also visit Damascus, the sources said although no date has been set yet.
