Security at the Rafik Hariri International Airport succeeded on Thursday in thwarting two drug smuggling operations at the facility, announced the Internal Security Forces on Friday.

It said that the inspection bureau at the airport thwarted within 15 minutes two attempts to smuggle Captagon pills by two Syrian travelers.

Security agents seized 38,900 pills weighing about 6.750 kilograms.

They were hidden at the bottom of the double-bottomed luggage of the suspects.

The travelers were seeking to smuggle the drugs to an Arab country.

They have since been referred to the anti-drug bureau for investigation.
