Bkirki Officials Urge Dialogue Participants for Swift Action over Presidency

W300

Officials in Bkirki said the national dialogue on the presidential vacuum would prolong the crisis, urging top officials who are holding all-party talks to take a “historic” decision that would lead to the election of a new head of state.

The officials, who were not identified, told the Kuwaiti al-Seyassah newspaper published Thursday that “the conferees should take a historic decision, which would lead to the removal of obstacles facing the presidential elections and help fill the vacuum.”

The election of a head of state would give back Christians their rights and fix the current flaw in the balance among different Lebanese sects, they said.

The officials called for holding onto the Constitution and for parliament to elect the president, in a clear rejection to a proposal made by Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun for direct elections.

A new government would be formed and parliamentary elections be held based on a fair and balanced electoral draft-law after the election of the head of state, they said.

The country's top Christian post has been vacant since the term of President Michel Suleiman ended in May last year.

Huge differences between the March 8 and 14 alliances have caused the vacuum.

The rivals are now tackling the presidential crisis and other controversial issues at the national dialogue chaired by Speaker Nabih Berri.

To Whom It May Concern
I, the_roar, a well respected, heavily voted, liked, and admired shia poster (3rd generation Australian) on naharnet hereby declare that until further notice I suspend my membership in this forum similar to what MP Emile Rahmeh ( who got the highest votes in the last elections ) did when he suspended his membership in the Lebanese Parliament in SOLIDARITY with the unlawful, unjustified, and oppressive decision by the administration of this forum to ban my fellow shia poster Flamethrower.
Let it be know to all that such practices by management contradict with the basic fundamentals of the Iranian constitution and free speech in North Korea.
I remain,
Signed

The presidential vacuum is a symptom of a very serious disease in this country, the right medication is to revisit the constitution to ensure equality among all the population ,obviously disconnection religion from politics is a must.

Default-user-icon tony sawayyah (Guest) over 9 years

and you think what is happening nowadays has anything to do with the constitution or equality among the population? It is all about the wishes and demands of a selfish sick politician who wants to be president at any cost.

The so called Hezb Allah will fight to the death anyone who calls for disconnecting religion from politics, that would be considered a direct attack on the Islamic resistance in Lebanon. So be forewarned.

Disconnecting religion from politics is a threat on hezballah's very survival so they will obviously fight it to the death even if that can start a civil war
