Report: New Committee to Tackle Exporting Waste

W300

A new committee has been formed on Thursday to tackle the controversial trash crisis and to study the proposals presented by some companies to export Lebanon's waste abroad, al-Mustaqbal daily reported on Friday.

Agriculture Minister Akram Shehayyeb heads the committee which is comprised of three new members one representing the Environment Ministry another representing the Council for Development and Reconstruction in addition to a judge to study the legal aspects of the offers put forward, unnamed ministerial sources told the daily.

The committee kicked off its first meeting Thursday evening under the chairmanship of Shehayyeb, and started studying the offers put forward by specialized companies in order to make the right decision before presenting it to the cabinet, they added without elaborating.

Lebanon has been suffering from a trash disposal crisis since July with the closure of the Naameh landfill.

Politicians have failed to find an alternative to the landfill, resulting in the pile up of garbage on the streets of the country.

Heavy rains last week brought with it flooded streets coupled with waste, as experts warned of the health and environmental impact of the crisis.

mowaten said Hezbollah already approved the waste plan, so why the "export" option?

"_mowaten_
what happened to the m14 goons who were swearing that Hezbollah would reject the plan?"

The only region that accepted hosting a landfill was the north ( to be fair ). Hezbollah rejected a landfill in the south or the bekaa area. Aoun and Kateab rejected hosting landfills in metn or keserwein. Now, it is all over again... and the cost to export is prohibitive..... and life goes on!

"started studying the offers put forward by specialized companies in order to make the right decision before presenting it to the cabinet, they added without elaborating."
the right decision = means we are studying how to make more money out of this....

when developed countries MAKE money out of their waste, in Lebanon they SPEND tax payers money to get rid of it... pityful...

funny we never find any comments from mooowtaen the souri, miss tic and co on economic pages or articles related to lebanese social problems or else.... they pretend to defend Lebanon interests... we only find them when it comes to defend hezbollah, but never lebanon...

well then ask someone to read you my comments as you seem to have difficulties in that matter.... too smart for you to understand i guess....

just read the above comment for a start... ok?

simple question for you = how come developed countries make money out of waste, produce energy with their waste and Lebanon cannot? they have to spend our money to get rid of it instead of recycling it?

or is that question too difficult for your unique neurone to understand?

where are your comments on that matter? lol

The country will collapse if the "leaders" don't get their act together real fast. They all have far too many excuses for not doing what's in the best interest of the country and getting things done. Once the country collapses they and the citizens of Lebanon will wish they did their job. Third world nations dispose of their trash properly so maybe take a cue from them and learn how to lead a nation.
