Leaders of the BRICS group called on Wednesday for Israel to stop targeting U.N. staff after incidents of Israeli troops firing on U.N. peacekeepers stationed in Lebanon.

"We strongly condemn the attacks on U.N. staff and threats to their security and call on Israel to immediately cease such actions," the group said in a joint statement.

The leaders also stressed that the "territorial integrity" of Lebanon be "preserved."

Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian urged members of the BRICS grouping to help "end the war" in Gaza and Lebanon.

"I call on all members of the influential BRICS group to use all their collective and individual capacities to end the war in Gaza and Lebanon, " said Pezeshkian during a speech at BRICS summit in Russia.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva also called for "avoiding escalation" in the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East during his speech at the BRICS, warning that the conflicts could "become global."

He also called on countries to "work together" to end the conflict in Gaza and Lebanon.
