Deputy Prime Minister Tarek Mitri on Thursday met with a visiting Iranian delegation, which included the Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular and Parliamentary Affairs and Iranians Abroad, Vahid Jalalzadeh, accompanied by Assistant Foreign Minister and Director General for West Asia and North Africa Affairs, Mehdi Shoushtari.

Mitri was briefed on the latest international and regional developments, the future of the U.S.-Iranian understanding, and its regional impact, particularly for Lebanon.

The meeting provided an opportunity to emphasize "the importance of peace and stability in the Middle East, a region weary of continuous wars," and to reiterate "Lebanon's intention to extend state control over all its territory, based on full sovereignty and genuine independence from any occupation or foreign domination," Mitri said.
