Aoun and Macron discuss region, south Lebanon developments in phone call

President Joseph Aoun has discussed regional developments and the situation in southern Lebanon in a phone call with French President Emmanuel Macron.

Aoun also updated Macron on his recent visit to Washington, the presidency said Sunday in a post on the X platform.

During the call, Aoun briefed Macron on the outcomes of his recent official visit to the United States, including his talks with U.S. President Donald Trump and senior American officials, which focused on the situation in Lebanon, the post-framework agreement roadmap, and the execution of its core points.

The two leaders addressed the escalating tensions in southern Lebanon due to continued Israeli strikes on several border towns and villages. They emphasized the urgent need to halt these attacks and strictly adhere to a cessation of hostilities, the presidency said.

Additionally, the discussion covered future arrangements following the conclusion of UNIFIL’s mandate in the south, highlighting the critical role of sustained international engagement in preserving regional stability.

Presidents Aoun and Macron agreed to stay in close coordination as events unfold.
