Has Hezbollah offered to withdraw from Ali al-Taher?

W300

Hezbollah proposed earlier this week to hand over the strategic Ali al-Taher area to the Lebanese Army, amid “the decline of its ability to hold onto it and its attempt to withdraw the fighters and equipment that are present there,” an informed Western diplomatic source said.

“This information gains significance when compared to the situation approximately two months ago, when the Lebanese Army offered to take control of the Ali al-Taher area. However, Hezbollah refused at the time, even threatening to target any force entering the area,” the source told LBCI television.

However, the same source added that “Israel rejected this proposal, which later prompted Hezbollah to deny the offer through several of its MPs and to assert that its fighters would not leave the area.”

Two local sources meanwhile denied to LBCI the remarks of the Western diplomatic source.

After its hubris of thinking Hezbollah and IRGC could retain control of the place, equipment and people there, of course Israel would not now agree to their retreating at their convenience. Of course Israel would allow the people to walk away from that place, but the Republic of Lebanon wants all that is stored there is to be separated from Hezbollah's war machine. Just because the LAF is being advantaged by the IDF's military successes in Southern Lebanon doesn't mean that Berri's belligerents will have their way just because domestic politics and corruption has biased government to favor Shia and Iranian interests in recent years.

No, President Aoun is leading the new era of rebuilding a strong unified nation under one governmental authority that will be accountable to all Lebanese .. the old era is being ended .. for Lebanon's sake, the humanitarian gesture of allowing the people to in al Taher to leave is moral, just as is separating them from their ability to continue to threaten Lebanon going forward.
