Israeli army says prefers 'political course' that leads to disarming Hezbollah

The battle against Hezbollah has not ended yet and the group suffered major damage but is still present as an organization, an Israeli military source said.

“We hope not to be forced to work militarily in the heart of Lebanon and the Lebanese state is the side responsible for addressing the file of Hezbollah’s arms,” the source told Al-Arabiya’s Al-Hadath channel.

“We prefer a political course that leads to disarming Hezbollah,” the source added, noting that Israel is “counting on U.S.-mediated negotiations to reach an agreement regarding Hezbollah’s weapons.”

Pointing out that Israel’s goal is to “prevent Hezbollah from regaining its ability to threaten north Israel’s towns,” the source said the Israeli army “unveiled Hezbollah structures above and under the ground in Bint Jbeil and its vicinity.”

“Search operations for additional Hezbollah infrastructure are still ongoing,” the source told Al-Hadath.
