Geagea: Duty of Lebanese to stand with KSA in face of heinous attacks
Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea on Wednesday stated that “just as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has always stood by Lebanon during every crisis it has faced, it is our duty, as Lebanese people, to stand united with the Kingdom as it faces heinous and bloody attacks."
Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels targeted oil facilities in south Saudi Arabia in recent days, wounding dozens, as deadly fighting and Saudi airstrikes renewed in Yemen after a Houthi offensive towards the Red Sea's Bab al-Mandab chokepoint.
"We have been closely monitoring events in the Gulf since day one. The last thing we expected was for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to be subjected to such attacks; it has never been a military party to the ongoing conflict, even though it holds clear political stances and alliances -- a natural right for any sovereign, free, and independent state," Geagea said.
He emphasized that "the Kingdom has spared no effort, at various stages, to de-escalate tensions in the region, only to be 'rewarded' with extremely dangerous attacks that defy all logic and reason."
He concluded: "In any case, it is a source of pride for the Kingdom that nearly all nations of the world -- including countries close to Iran -- have condemned the attacks against it and expressed their solidarity."
