Berri: Situation dangerous, framework agreement has fallen

Speaker Nabih Berri has stated that "the situation is dangerous" in south Lebanon and "solutions remain far off," noting that "the framework agreement has fallen."

"If the Israelis want to occupy, they can do so," Berri added, in remarks to al-Joumhouria newspaper.

Regarding the role of the Lebanese Army amid the Israeli escalation and the widening scope of attacks, Berri emphasized that "the army is the fundamental pillar for the Lebanese structure."

The Speaker also addressed his relationship with President Joseph Aoun, affirming that it remains intact despite disagreements on several issues. "We differ on a number of matters, but that does not preclude our friendship," Berri said.

When asked about the possibility of a breakthrough in the near future given current diplomatic efforts, Berri expressed pessimism: "I am not optimistic. The greatest proof of my lack of optimism is the ongoing killing and the loss of lives -- including children -- alongside the acts of leveling and demolition."

He added: "The moves being made are of no value; unfortunately, there are no solutions," referring to the efforts and initiatives aimed at finding a way out of the crisis.
