Lebanon may propose Israeli withdrawal plan based on 'synchronized stages'

Lebanese officials are discussing with the Lebanese delegation to the talks with Israel several ideas and strategies aimed at bypassing the U.S.-Israel conditions that seem to be crippling to Lebanon, a media report said.

The Lebanese leaders’ plan is based on the principle of “synchronized stages” and aims to relieve U.S. pressure regarding the weapons file, al-Joumhouria newspaper reported on Tuesday.

Under the plan, the Lebanese Army would identify deployment points where it possesses immediate readiness to deploy, distributed across several areas, sources told the daily. Israel would then be requested to execute specific withdrawals in the South for a certain distance -- from a specific area, town, or for a distance of a kilometer or slightly more.

“As soon as this is executed, a squad from the Lebanese Army, under international sponsorship, would enter and assume security responsibilities there,” the sources added, noting that this proposal is intended to strip Israel of the excuse of the presence of a "security vacuum," which it is using to continue its operations.
