Hezbollah says Hamas' Oct. 7 attack a 'legitimate act of resistance'

The October 7, 2023, attack by Hamas on Israel “shook the world and served as a reminder of the Palestinian cause,” Hezbollah said Wednesday in a statement marking three years since the operation, describing the action as “courageous, qualitative, natural, justified, and a legitimate act of resistance given the scale of injustice.”

Hezbollah added that the attack delivered a major shock whose results should be measured by values, laws, and its impact on politics, rather than by “the balance of power, superiority, and the excessive use of violence,” which culminated “the genocide of women and children.”

The statement highlighted that people around the world rose up and demonstrated in support of human values and Palestinian rights after the operation, noting that capitals and universities across the West witnessed marches condemning genocide and crimes against humanity.

According to Hezbollah, the operation disrupted the region surrounding Palestine because it went against what it described as the "defeatist normalization path" that regional regimes were leading in line with “the will of Israel and its international supporters.”

Hezbollah added that the past three years -- during which world news and images were filled with "Zionist and American savagery and barbarism" -- have failed to “resolve the confrontation regarding Gaza and its political and legal future in favor of Israel and its allies.”

Hezbollah also argued that the narrative of those opposing or expressing reservations about the attack has not prevailed, despite what it called "lamentations and elegies" over the destruction and human and material losses, which it held Israel responsible for causing.

It stated that “Israel, despite the savagery and genocide, has been unable to eliminate Hamas, other resistance factions, or the people of Gaza, nor has it achieved peace, a temporary truce, or stability.”

Hezbollah concluded that Israel will remain unable to leverage its successes into a stable strategic position due to “the resilience and stubbornness of the resistance, as well as the belief of its people in the justice and worthiness of their cause despite the sacrifices required.”

In the next millennium, perhaps the Shia will choose for themselves a project that is more constructive than Lose-Lose. Fatima's envy can never make the in-laws as rich as would primogeniture. Everything else is a detail.
