Sources: Syria Frustrated over Swift Reactions by Suleiman, Miqati on Shaaban Killing

W300

President Michel Suleiman and Premier Najib Miqati have been informed about the frustration of Syrian authorities from their condemnation of the killing of a Lebanese cameraman ahead of an investigation into the incident, ministerial sources said.

The sources told pan-Arab daily al-Hayat published Monday that Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdul Karim Ali and the head of the Lebanese-Syrian Higher Council, Nasri Khoury, informed both Suleiman and Miqati about the disappointment of the Damascus regime.

Al-Jadeed TV cameraman Ali Shaaban was killed last Monday when the car he was travelling in along with two of his colleagues in the Wadi Khaled area came under fire from the Syrian side of the border.

Lebanese officials from across the political spectrum condemned the killing.

Suleiman called on “the Syrian side” to conduct the necessary investigations to pinpoint responsibilities and prevent a recurrence of such attacks in the future.

Miqati also “condemned the act of opening fire from the Syrian side on the Lebanese media team, mainly as this team was operating within Lebanese territory.”

The Syrian state news agency, SANA, said the al-Jadeed team came under fire as border guards opened fire in retaliation to an attack by "terrorist groups."

No wonder, human life has no value in Syria.

wait, they kill the lebanese journalist and instead of the lebanese side summoning their ambassador, the syrian ambassador informs the lebanese of their "disappointment" by the lebanese "swift" reaction? What a twisted joke!

as embassador u don't have the right to be frustrated over anything: ur army made a mistake, and it led to the death of a Lebanese civilian. so the the decent thing to do is to appologize and shut up not criticize the country leaders

Bravo kesrwaneh... Big difference between being pro Syrian and being pro Lebanese! Some can't see the difference between anti and pro Syrian and just being Lebanese! We must put our country and country men first. Those that I don't agree with locally has no bearing on my allegiance to my fellow lebanese.

What is happening in Syria is a tragedy... What's more tragic is how foreigners (friends) are playing for this divide. Whats happening in Syria is daja vue for Lebanon.

For once kesrweneh makes sense :)
however it is the regime who is frustrated, and that is for a reason:
- if they admit they di it accross the border, this means it is an aggression against another country, AND THAT THEY DO NOT WANT.
- if they do, they become loable under the UN for starting a war.
- ...

hahaha I always make sense, but usually u don't agree with me...and as for Syria it's simple: u make a mistake u pay just like anyone else

wow everyone agrees that syria should accept responsibility since the aggression was from their side of the border. That is called putting our country ahead of foreign interests. If only we can translate this unity when it comes to domestic issues and put the good of he country ahead of any party propaganda from either side of politics imagine how much progress we could make..

oh... funny kesrwaneh... were you so offensed when the syrian army killed the other lebanese at the border? or is it because this poor man was pro M8 that you are so offensed?

time of frustration for the regime in syria started 13 months ago...now depression is in the making.

no FT, i remember supporters of M8 applauding syria here when they killed lebanese villagers at the border saying they were just salafis because they lived in akkar... so speak for yourself

Default-user-icon Minx (Guest) over 12 years

The Syrian Regime is used to that, kill and blame others as usual, fortunately there were survivors from the extensive shooting (that was meant to kill them all)
Suleiman & Mikati were stating facts based on living martyrs observation and the regime is frustrated, while SANA and Syrian cronies in Lebanon are making stories about hard to believe theories, and we are supposed to accept their BS and stay put!!!!What a bunch of losers

Dear FT:
- I for one did not see anyone saying shaaban got what he deserves, and if I ever see something like that, I would voice a firm reply :)
- I agree with peace, and remember clearly some m8 guys cheering for the killing of some lebanese villagers, and that is not correct too.
- however, regarding nasrallah, I beg to differ: we defend lebanese people with lebanese agendas, and not iranians!

Shaaban got what he deserved along with what all assad's supporters in and outside lebanon deserve! Voice a firm reply and i'll voice a firmer one! All assad's "friends" (more like puppets) got killed when the regime no longer needed them. What was shaaban doing at the border other than trying to film "salafis", arm smugglers and the like just to keep fueling the defense of assad? He got shot by the same hand that fed him, why should we mourn a dog if his master decided to get rid of him.

thank you sik for prooving our point

M14 never had a lebanese agenda, remember the giant picture of the saoudi king during their last meeting (u know when saad did his famous strip) and during 2006 they were having lunch with condi, fatfat was serving tea to tsahal. saad signed a bilateral treaty with trukey allowing it to export all it's goods here tax free including our traditional product such as labneh and laban (imagine eating a turkish labneh) so allow me to be doubtfull regarding the lebanese agenda

I guess reporters being at the scene and telling the world what they saw goes against what the assad government wants. Screw em--they have been lying for so long they are starting to believe their own fairy tales.
