Gasoline Prices Soar to Highest Levels in Months

Fuel prices climbed in the past few weeks, prompting the Gas Station Owners Association to threaten on Wednesday precautionary measures to face this hike.
“The government should cap soaring fuel prices,” Fadi Abou Shaqra, advisor to the Gas Station Owners Association told Voice of Lebanon radio (93.3).
He urged the cabinet to resolve the matter, warning of escalating measures after the visit of Pope Benedict XVl as the rising prices “can’t be endured.”
Benedict is due to visit Lebanon September 14-16 to bring a message of peace and call for greater respect for religious pluralism.
The price of 95-octane rated fuel rose on Wednesday by LL400 reaching LL36,400, while the 98-octane rose by LL500 reaching LL37,000.
Diesel rose by LL500, bringing the price to LL27,100.

yes this might be true, but how much do they get paid in Europe?
how much is the state offering its citizens in terms of services, roads, schools, ....?

True but how about the wages, and the traffic jams.

People are getting poorer where I live by the hour... the Lebanese wages are already matching the Greek's. As of traffic Jams, whenever you're stuck, you're stuck... however, getting stuck at the 'Ouzai' near the airport is hellish, you get the sewer's smell, especially in the summer. yikis!

Compared to Europe, these prices are low. Compared to the US, they are a little higher. Average gas price today in the US is $3.79 a gallon, so exactly $20 for 20 Liters compared to $24 in Lebanon. $4 more is not the end of the world. The Per Capita income in the US is $40,000 which is comparable to Lebanon at $16000 (We should account for 28% tax in the US while people do not pay income taxes in Lebanon, the monthly house expenses - for gas/electric/water/sewage - is $520 a month in the US while it is $240 in Lebanon, and $600 a month healthcare insurance expenses in the US while in Lebanon no one worries about healthcare).
It remains cheap when compared to EU prices.
