Berri Calls on Army to Preserve Security throughout Lebanon
Speaker Nabih Berri stressed on Monday that the raids the army carried out in Beirut's southern suburb is a “natural” endeavor that should be implemented throughout Lebanese territories, local newspapers reported.
“AMAL movement and Hizbullah support the army in its mission to preserve security,” Berri told As Safir newspaper.
He expressed confidence in the patriotism of the military institution and its leadership.
Berri wondered in comments published in An Nahar about the fuss around the raids carried out by the army, saying “Beirut's southern suburb isn't an isolated island.”
“The state is required to extend its authority everywhere... and to detain all drug dealers,” the speaker said.
He pointed out that the resistance was established to defend the state and not to replace it, thus “we call on the army to activate its presence” throughout Lebanon.
The army arrested several people over the weekend in Rweiss neighborhood of Beirut's southern suburbs following a string of kidnappings of Syrian nationals and a Turkish businessman by members of al-Meqdad clan in retaliation to the seizure of Hassan al-Meqdad, who was allegedly abducted in Syria by the Free Syrian Army.
It also confiscated a large quantity of weapons, ammunition, explosives and military equipment hidden in a vehicle in Rweiss.
On the new wages scale for public employees that was approved by the cabinet last week, Berri noted that the draft law will be referred to the competent parliamentary committee to study it according to norms.
“If the government united in defending the draft law, it will pass in the (parliament's) general assembly, as it has the parliamentary majority, if not, then the government will have to assume its responsibility,” he added.
On Thursday, the cabinet approved during a session at the Baabda Palace the new salaries scale for public employees ending a long dispute that prompted the Syndicate Coordination Committee to hold several sit-ins and strikes.
According to An Nahar newspaper, Berri held a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Najib Miqati on Sunday and the two are expected to meet utmost on Tuesday.
woof woof
keep barking you day is coming, you and all the criminals who support bashar. i heard stories of this guy running away in his kalsoon. Remember you dog, you'll be crushed like a insect when bashar falls
bistonie great comments buddy ,now Amal and Hezb Iran support the army ,their days are numbered once Assad is gone ..
Do I detect a slight shift in policy? Southern suburbs (Thugland) was a red line to the army in the past... Is HA being more receptive of the lebanese state? Only to say later that he has always been like that? is he slowly programming his next step?
no body is fooled by this change in direction, their reliance on the assad gateway to iran is slowly closing and need to stay relevant. each day we read a more softened down version of their usual pro assad BS, the sad thing is their supporters will not even realise what these cowards are trying to do but follow them mindlessly like sheep.
Of course they are afraid of what comes next, hence the sudden support of the Lebanese army and giving it the green light to do its job
Throughout Lebanese territory????am i reading it right?why the sudden change of cap?what abt the republic of dahieh?are they allowed to get in there too?hmmm, let us see.
yalla!!the friends of ASSad are like shrinking ships.each one of them are trying to save themselves,,,
Berri hates the guts of HA anyway... He must be extatic to allow the army to go in dahieh and undermine HA.
Evil liar.
@Phoenix
Bro you blow my mind with the truth and i am so proud of you and happy that there is someone out there who knows the whole TRUTH. You could lie to God,your spouse your family and the entire world but you could never lie to yourself. Amin Gemayil even tho i dont have time for the guy but he said one thing in the 80's which is so absolutely true about the Lebanese people " Give us peace and you will receive from us what will amaize the world".
funniest and most hypocrit call , he made my day!
I wonder what Bashar is saying about this speech?? I say put the army on the border in the North and the Bekaa.
go into Dahiyeh now and collect all overdue electricity bills now while they are co-operating!
phoenician well said buddy..
