Miqati, Berri Discuss Referral of New Wage Scale to Parliament

Prime Minister Najib Miqati held talks on Friday with Speaker Nabih Berri to discuss the latest local developments, the state-run National News Agency reported.

According to the news agency, the meeting that was held in Ain el-Tineh tackled the cabinet's decision to refer the new wage scale for public employees to the parliament.

The government referred the controversial salary scale on Thursday to the parliament, ending a month-long open-ended strike staged by the Syndicate Coordination Committee.

The cabinet had approved the wage scale last year but has been stalling in finding sources to fund it, leading to growing differences with the SCC, which has been accusing it of negligence.

Miqati left Ain el-Tineh without making any statement.
