Berri Expresses Concern over Attempts to Divide Muslims

Speaker Nabih Berri expressed fear on Tuesday that those who are behind the deadly blasts that rocked the northern city of Tripoli and Beirut's southern suburbs will continue their attempts to embroil Muslims in sedition.

“The current security situation is worrisome and the political situation isn't any better,” Berri said in comments published in As Safir newspaper.

He pointed out that politicians acted with a national responsibility in confronting the repercussions of the explosive-laden cars.

Berri called on the rival parties to cooperate to end the current political deadlock.

Lebanon has been a scene of violent attacks recently.

On Friday, two powerful blasts rocked the northern city of Tripoli, killing over 35 people and wounding 900 others.

These attacks came eight days after 27 people were killed and around 300 wounded in a car bombing that rocked the Beirut southern suburb of Ruwais, a Hizbullah bastion.

Concerning, AMAL movement's decision to cancel a mass rally that was to be held in the southern Nabatiyeh province, its leader noted that the security situation forced it.

The rally was set to mark the 35th anniversary of the disappearance of Imam Moussa Sadr and his two companions.

“What guarantees that the participants will be able to move safely,” Berri said in comments published in An Nahar newspaper.

The decision was taken after evaluating the situation in the country amid advises by security officials to cancel it.

Revered by Lebanon's Shiites as a key spiritual and political guide, Sadr vanished in 1978 amid mysterious circumstances and was last seen in Libya where he was invited by slain leader Moammar Gadhafi.

At the time, Sadr was trying to negotiate an end to the Lebanese civil war (1975-1990), in which Palestinian factions were involved.

Speaker Berri must realize that if the beloved Imam Sadr was still alive, the situation would have been far better than now, and Mr. Berri would be nothing today.
Poor Imam I am sure he is turning over in his grave right now as none of his great vision and legacy for Lebanon have been pursued and implemented by his successor

Speaker Berri, to find the origins of what and who has divided the Muslims which has lead to the present chaos and mayhem, both sides need not look too far outside their respective circles. You have no one to blame other than yourselves for the hatred each side grows and fosters within. It is time to put the blame where it belongs and stop blaming others. It is time to go back to the drawing board, identify and target the initiators of the hatred, set your differences/hatred aside, start fresh, respect each other and live together peacefully. This advise is not limited within or to the Islam religion alone. Trouble makers, despots and tyrants come in all shapes and forms whether they call themselves Christians, Muslims, Jews, etc.

We all need to spot these oppressors and stop them. Otherwise, the human race is becoming the worst living beings that have inhabited this (I will not say "our") Earth. This goes to all races, religions, etc. Living on this beautiful planet with all that she has offered us to live and prosper is not an absolute right. It is a privilege.

Of course when political parties become totally sectarian divisions will be prevalent.

Monsieur Berri, the Muslim schism occured 1400+ years ago.... Way before America was discovered or Europe showing interests for our regions.

Stop blaming others, be a man and endorse responsibility for what's happening to your country.

Monsieur Berri, how about taking responsibility for your part for a change? How about you do the noble thing and resign your post which you've held like a dictator for how many years now? While you're at it, convince all your familiar adversaries in the M divide, the same old crooks, to go with you so the Lebanese people can get a respite from the thuggery and thievery they have been suffering at all of your hands and have a fighting chance at rebuilding and making a future for their children? Is that too much to ask? Have you and the other dishonorable characters from the M spectrum not filled your coffers enough? Still Thirsty and lusting for Gold? Too bad, only the people who put you in your position can dethrone you when they wake up from their illiteracy induced stupor.
